Boating Tips
BATTENING DOWN:
With many boats now in winter storage, it’s awfully tempting to wrap cover tie-downs around the jackstands or a lightweight cradle.  This can be a potentially dangerous situation as a loose cover can become a powerful sail in a stiff breeze.  This can cause your boat to move on the stands causing the boat to be unstable on the stands (or worse yet fall completely off the stands).  An easy solution is to use sandbags or plastic jugs half-filled with water at the end of the tie-downs.

SLINGTIME TIP:
If your boat doesn’t have the sling placements etched on the hull, note the locations while your boat is on the hard ground and then paint “sling” under the rail or have vinyl graphics made.  Also, mark the location of knot meters, transducers, props, struts, fore and aft ends of keel, rudders, etc.  This assists this spring’s yard crew and lift operator and prevents accidental damage to underwater gear.
